About HobbyGuide.io
We help people start new hobbies without drowning in gear-buying guides.
What we do
Every guide on this site follows the same QuickStart format: the minimum you actually need, a first action you can do this weekend, and honest recommendations about what to buy only if you stick with it. No 40-item shopping lists. No "you need a $3,000 setup to start."
How we pick gear
We recommend gear we'd give a friend who's just starting. That usually means:
- The cheapest thing that won't hold you back. Not the cheapest thing, period.
- Things that are widely available — no niche imports or out-of-stock "best picks."
- Things you can grow out of, not out of in a week.
How affiliate links work
Some links on this site (mostly to Amazon and a few specialty retailers) are affiliate links. When you buy something through one of those links, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. That's how the site pays for itself.
Crucially: we don't recommend things because they pay well. We recommend things because they're what we'd tell a friend to buy. If a better option exists without an affiliate program, we link to it anyway.
